Knoxville Alcoholism Treatment

• Sixty-two percent would like to see restaurants sell alcohol.
• The survey was distributed to 1,200 Knoxville homes and received 459 returns.

While there are positive aspects to lifting the ban, such as increased revenue for the city, there are also some drawbacks to having alcohol available for purchase in Knoxville.

• It is believed that more than 40 percent of Knoxville residents travel to surrounding cities to purchase alcohol.
• A little more than 15 percent of the population of the city is suffering from alcoholism already.
• With the availability of alcohol within city limits, alcoholism could spike by more than 50 percent.
• Legalizing the sale of alcohol could cause an increase in binge drinking.

Negative Effects of Alcoholism in Knoxville

If voters opt to lift the ban on alcohol sales, the city will see a rise in alcoholism. In addition to having more people addicted to a substance in the city, other factors will come into play, including:

• Increased crime rates
• Higher instances of fatal car accidents due to alcohol
• Increased teenage drinking
• Increase in family problems
• Dropout rates could increase
